Abstract

Indonesia, located within the Pacific Ring of Fire, is highly vulnerable to natural disasters, particularly earthquakes, which remain a serious threat and endanger communities, particularly in West Java. Students who do not understand disaster preparedness are also at risk of being affected by disasters. Data shows that anyone can become a victim if they lack awareness of disaster preparedness. The main objective was to provide counseling and simulations on disaster preparedness to students, especially at SMA N 4, Subang Regency, West Java, which is part of an area potentially affected by megathrust earthquakes. The activity method involved all 10th-grade students of SMA N 4 Subang. Counseling was provided using lecture and discussion methods, as well as simulations. Success was measured using a pre-post test method. The results after education to 124 participants showed that the majority of knowledge was in the high category, at 87%. The conclusion obtained was that education is an optimal strategy to increase students' understanding and awareness of disaster preparedness in earthquake disaster preparedness.
